The Grove Water Pumping Station
The Grove Water Pumping Station, on Hempstead Road, Watford, blocked two footpaths sometime before or during the second world war. A narrow path was made outside of their grounds linking to the footpath to what is now the drive of The Grove Hotel.

In the late 40s the issue went before the Watford magistrates but they didn't resolve it and they adjourned the case 'sine die' - that is without fixing a date.

Chris Beney of BADFA and Colin Knight of the Ramblers, and then with Phil Wadey of BHS, put pressure on County.

Recently Watford Council was persuaded to make an order taking the path right round the Pumping Station to join the canal. BADFA and Ramblers managed to get a very good width except for the first bit by Hempstead Road, but we failed to get bridleway status. The order went through and there was an opening ceremony with the Mayor of Watford.
