The open bridge

Whilst it has to be said that this bridge was not a BADFA project, nevertheless we played a significant part in it. We are, of course, active on the stakeholders group for this Woodland Trust land. We had been pressing for some years for a bridge around here to save having to go right down and across the stream when going to the southern edge of the Woodland Trust land and also when taking the path from there to Mutton Wood beside the Hertsmere/Three Rivers boundary.

We rounded most of the sharp edges of the wood on-site with a routing tool. The wood was mostly from Woodland Trust's own trees, prepared by the Hatfield House sawmill. We think the slightly unusual inclusion of the horizontal rails along the top of the posts and between the posts (instead of the more normal fixing on the walking side of these posts) not only made the bridge a few useful inches wider, but looks rather better.
