Feedback from the BADFA Web.

June 2002/Oct 2002 with May 2003 update

What sort of question gets put to us?

Overwhelmingly it involves gates and other structures. Probably four out of five.

These seem mostly to come from outside our active area but we are pleased to be able to help a little.
Three came from the USA, one of which was for a kissing gate design to build in the California area as part of a sort of English theme park.   Recently someone from Manchester wanted to keep motorbikes out but allow large mobility vehicles (wheelchairs) through. We suggested RADAR locks as used to access toilets for the disabled. This case was interesting as the Highway Authority was saying that if the group who built the gate couldn't arrange for it to allow mobility vehicles, then the whole structure would have to be removed. Herts County Council please note.
Today (22 June) we had a follow up of the John Sears Churchyard report, yesterday we had an enquiry from near St Albans, seeking advice on dealing with a proposed diversion.

Most recently a landowner concerned about fly tipping on a path and an enquiry for the latest facts about Van Hoogstraten.

We don't seem to get much totally unsolicited mail, but we do get a regular one that we find useful, it is a 'web crawler' that two or three times a year points out broken links or other defects in our web.

Update at May 2003:
We have had significantly more local enquiries in the last few months, the three most recent from complete strangers were:
# an enquiry about a route in Watford that appears under threat (we had never heard of the route)
# someone checking that Aldenham 8 and/or Bushey 46 were still open and
# an enquiry about mineral content of lakes

We always welcome feedback, whether it be defects, however small,
or questions, or just comments.
