A spot of difficulty early on.

The picnic
A route that had something new for everybody. Weather was kind to us. Aldenham 31A passed without incident, Tykeswater Lane negotiated by some prior clearance by BADFA. At the end a bit of excitement when we were shouted at from some distant stables to shut a gate before we had all gone through it. Our walk leader gave back about unlawful obstructions at equal volume.
Sunday 4th July 2004 12.00 noon 7 miles
Bushey Festival Walk.

Forty six people came on this walk despite risk of rain and of the Wimbledon Finals. It was something of an eye opener to many people as it went through some little known paths. The new steps to the park at Bushey Mill Lane (Hartspring Meadow) were new to almost everyone.

Wendy Way had been cleared for us on Friday by HCC Rural
estates. For some of the walkers this was their first visit to the Colne Valley. We
picnicked by the ford on the Colne near Munden, and most agreed it was worth
waiting for that spot. David Bearfield, following tradition, got his feet wet.
We were led through the woods at Wall Hall on the new, planned, path route past
the Open Air Theatre and down past the rather derelict ponds. BADFA had cleared
and marked this route two days before.
Because it was a rather long walk (7 miles) we provided transport home from Wall
Hall, two and a half miles from the end, but only four people took advantage of that.

The picnic (Tykeswater)

Stop for hot mince pies and mulled wine
Thirty people came on the new year walk. The weather wasn't too bad, far
better than new year 2003.
David Bearfield was ill and Chris Beney took over at short notice so predictably
the walkers were subjected to several short stops at items of interest. One stop
that everyone seemed to appreciate was for the hot mulled wine and mince pies
[photo].
One stile on a non definitive path proved especially difficult during this walk
and we will re-make representations to the Woodland Trust.
