Sunday 14th August 2005 3 miles
Two rivers walk Croxley Green.
Leader Chris Beney
This three mile walk at Rickmansworth/Croxley Green took us south past the
school fields to the Croxley Great Barn and on towards the canal and Rivers Gade
& Colne. Then up to Croxley Green, cutting across Copthorne Road down to the River Chess and back to the start.
Eleven people came, despite the short notice. We played pooh sticks, we saw (or rather glimpsed) the great barn, we admired or otherwise the kissing gate made of railway lines, we saw the Colne, the Gade, and the Chess. Two short showers didn't spoil the fun.

Over 50 people came, despite the heat. We could have done with some more
shade for the picnic.

Bride Street & Stanmore Common
| About 30 people came along including one from Cambridge, two from Dorset and two from California.
One walker felt unwell but he got back home OK. Hot mulled wine and mince pies
at the Roman memorial in the Orthopaedic Hospital grounds fortified the walkers
for the rest of the journey through the impenetrable rainforests of Stanmore
Common.....sorry, got carried away, and it didn't rain until just after the
walk. (You may like to read something of the problems on part of this path, Bride Street, the London Loop at www.badfa.org.uk/bridestreet/bridestreet.htm) |
